Lenape’s ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Lenape’s Athletic Trainers get a taste of their own medicine!

On Thursday, August 21, 2014, Lenape High School’s fall sports teams took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The administrators and coaches joined in as well and challenged their counterparts at Shawnee, Cherokee, and Seneca. The Mount Laurel Fire Department helped with the challenge by using its equipment to soak the participants.

The Ice Bucket Challenge has taken the world by storm to help raise funds and awareness for ALS. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Degeneration of the motor neurons causes muscle weakness within the body, and affected individuals eventually lose voluntary muscle control. The students and staff had a lot of fun performing the challenge while simultaneously raising awareness of a very serious disease. Check out the full video by Lenape TV here, or right here:
