Mr. and Mrs. E. Mitchell happily married but sadly retiring

Few people know the halls of Lenape better than the Mitchell’s. That only makes sense since they’ve spent a significant portion of their lives at Lenape. Unfortunately, Mr. and Mrs. E. Mitchell have decided to retire at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. I had the opportunity to ask them a few final questions before they end their chapter here at Lenape.

Mr. Mitchell is best known for his position as a History teacher. But after interviewing him I found out that he is much more than just that.

1. How long have you worked at Lenape?

Well, I was a student here for 4 years but I’ve been teaching for 35 years.

2. What is your favorite memory from working here?

I’ve spent my whole life at this school. So I got my license here, my first car, my first everything. All my major life events have happened while I was here. I coached football for some years too. I got engaged then married while at Lenape. I had my kids while here and recently just had my first grandchild.

3. What are you going to miss the most?

You know the job and my coworkers. I’m going to miss coaching too. And the community feel you get from being at Lenape.

4. What are you going to miss the least?

Some changes in the administrative part and the tedious parts of the job.

5. What are you planning to do once you retire?

I plan to move to North Carolina at some point and visit my grandson there too before hand. Also to spend time vacationing. I’m really just worried I’ll get bored while retired so I have to stay busy.

6. What are you planning to do as a couple with your wife?

Travel with her and just be grandparents.

Mrs. Mitchell is currently a physical education teacher and Mr. Mitchell’s wife.

1. How long have you been working here? Did you meet Mr. Mitchell here?.

I’ve been working here 32 years. And no, actually, we met through old friends.

2. What is your favorite memory from working here?

The people that I’ve met and the students, of course.

3. What are you going to miss the most?

The kids, really.

4. What are you going to miss the least?

You know, just some administrative stuff.

5. What are you planning to do once you retire?

Well, we just had our first grandson and he lives down in North Carolina so we plan to move there. I also plan to just lead a slower lifestyle.

6. What are you planning to do as a couple with your husband?

We plan to travel. But only within the country. There’s so many great places in the states that we haven’t seen yet.

Loved by many, Mr. and Mrs. E. Mitchell will be greatly missed as they move on with their lives. Hopefully they enjoy their travels and future plans as much as they seem to have enjoyed their teaching careers at Lenape.
