As the new decade approaches it is important to set goals for ourselves to makes us reach our best potential. People often set new year’s resolutions to give themselves, but find it hard to carry them through throughout the new year. Here are 10 simple and achievable new years resolutions that can make your life happier and healthier.

  1. Create a budget to spend your money wisely. Once you start saving up money, you will feel more secure knowing that there is something in your piggy bank in times of emergencies.
  2. Cook one new thing each week. By cooking more often, you will live a healthier lifestyle because you won’t eat out as much. Also, by cooking something new, you can learn a new skill each week!
  3. Take the stairs more often. This forces you to get in those daily steps, and gives you an energy boost for the day.
  4. Get some plants. This may seem strange, but if you’re stressed from all of the college work or school work, having indoor plants can reduce stress levels. It reduces blood pressure and calms the nervous system.
  5. Start doing yoga. You can do yoga alone or with your friends to make it more fun.  On the topic of relieving stress yoga will calm your tensions and help you relax. Also, you can get a good laugh at your friends trying to do some hard poses.
  6. Stay more hydrated. Carrying a reusable water bottle can be the easiest way to keep up with this resolution. The water bottle will be a constant reminder to drink up!
  7. Volunteer more. It is always good to give back to the community and help those less fortunate than you. There is nothing more rewarding than putting a smile on someone’s face! You can sign up at local organizations, whether it is a permanent commitment or just a couple of hours, it will brighten their day.
  8. Try to stay organized. This may be hard for some people, but you can fix this by purchasing boxes or shelves that can declutter you room and your life. Being more organized will help you feel calmer and more put together.
  9. Explore new hobbies. This may seem like an obvious one, but it doesn’t have to be too extravagant. You could learn to sew, try a new painting technique, or start running. Simple hobbies like this will give more purpose to your day and make you happier.
  10. Last, but not least tell your resolutions to other people. By talking about you goals you are obligated to keep up with them. Societal pressure will help you maintain these resolutions to create a better lifestyle for you and those around you.
