Lenape High School has many new and inclusive clubs for students to join. Clubs at Lenape create a sense of community where people with similar passions and interests can come together and support one another. One of them is Mother’s in Need. Mother’s In Need launched at Lenape at the beginning of this school year, with the hope of making an impact on the community.
Mother’s In Need is a charity-based club that hosts various drives and activities to help mothers who lack necessities. They host different donation drives every month and different themed cards every month in which volunteers can gain community service hours. All items are donated to women and children who have suffered domestic violence at shelters.
The founder of Mothers In Need is Olivia Iaquinto is currently a sophomore. She started this club with the intention of bringing students together to support one specific cause she is deeply interested in.
“I am passionate about women’s rights, and the protection of women is very important to me. I was inspired to start this,” Olivia Iaquinto says.
Iaquinto is aiming to have a large impact on the people in her community with this club. As of right now, Mothers In Need has scaled to over 150 members and has donated over an impressive 400 cards to the mothers. Their most notable donation was the diaper drive, where they were able to donate 100+ boxes of diapers and donated various other items like canned food for Thanksgiving. This is the club’s first couple of months at Lenape, with many more impressive donations to be made.
“[My goal] is to reach 1000 donations during the year. [We] are definitely capable of this. I want to leave Lenape with a long-lasting impact, especially with this club likely to carry on for the years to come.” Iaquinto aspires.
Mothers In Need is a thriving club, especially for its first year at Lenape. Olivia hopes that this club stays within the school for many years to come, leaving a lasting impact. Besides her donation goals, Olivia hopes to bring Mothers in Need to her college in the future.
The impact of this club has not only reached the mothers they are donating to but the volunteers that participate and are involved with the club’s activities. Many students enjoy volunteering for Mothers in Need.
“I think it’s teaching people to have a sense of sympathy for others and really understand that some people are privileged in this world. If there is anything that we can do to help, we should be doing it.” Olivia states. “You definitely leave this club knowing you made someone smile by making an uplifting card.”
If you are looking for a place where you can gain community service, give to the community, and are passionate about helping others, Mother’s In Need is the club for you!
